dress up

Charley has got quite the imagination these days! But that is a normal part of being 3. I was getting dressed this morning, and she walks into my room looking like this!

*Notice she still is wearing her hat and glasses!!....and she still wears them everywhere we go!

Halloween was a big deal when we were younger. My mom always made us the coolest costumes! Some of which were princess costumes I may have to borrow when we come out there next month....??? k mom?!

Just like Schrammpa

Charley went to a Dora themed birthday party a few weeks ago (it was really cool!). Charley came home with a "Backpack" filled with a map, and binoculars, and other cool stuff. Charley came home from her party and told me all about how much fun she had, then she pulled out her binoculars and told me, "now I have binoculars like Schrammpa!"

However, Schrammpa may have to teach her how to use them....she's looking out them the wrong way!

Double Doctors Apt.

We went to the doctors last Saturday because the girls were sick. We went to the after hours doctor, not our normal doctor. I didn't like her as much. In fact, I think she tramatized Charley. She was terrified of going to her check up today. Our regular doctor had to work really hard, but he was finally able to coax Charley out of her corner she was hiding in. By the end she was telling him all about how she got a baby Ariel doll from Santa.....I really like our doctor, and still travel to Provo to see him. It took me 5 different doctors before I found one I liked. There is an office right by our house, but I don't want to go through that process again. However, one of our friends just got a job out here, and is moving into the pediatric office by our house, he will get here this summer. When they get here, I'll switch the girls. I'm so excited, because I know he'll be a great doctor! And I wont have to travel so far!

Gabby's Stats - 7 months
14.8 lbs (11th %-tile)
26 inches (34th %-tile)
17.24 inches (71st %-tile)

*heehee....so she's got a little body and a big head!!!....just like grandpa (just kidding dad :)!!!)

looking at her stats from her 4 month check up, she really hasn't grown at all. I was worried going into the check up because I knew she hadn't grown. As much as I love having my little baby, I know she needs to grow. The doctor said that at about 6 months, babies get distracted easy, so if she is only eating for a few minutes on each side, she probably isn't getting her hind milk. Which is what she was doing. She will eat, and seem full, and even pull herself off. He also said it may be a combination of me training for a marathon too. A lot of calories are used up running, especially on my long runs. He said I can still train, and still feed her, but just once or twice a day top her off with formula to give her the extra calories she needs.

Charley's Stats - 3 years
28.8 lbs (27th %-tile)
38.25 inches (74th %-tile)
BMI - 13.8 (3rd %-tile)

Welp, Charley has slowed down as well. But my mom told me that all of us kids did that. We were all really tall and skinny as babies, and then we started slowing down (not that we got fat either, but when we were 2 our estimated height was supposed to be like 5' 11"....and non of us are even close!). Charley is a healthy, active little girl. Because her height has slowed down a bit, it has helped her get back on the charts for her BMI (height/weight ratio) At Charley's 2 year check up she was in the .16 %-tile....

Yes, It's true....

....we went out in public like this!

We organized/cleaned Charley's room yesterday and found this hat and glasses in the process. Today, she didn't want to leave the house with out them on. I've learned to pick my battles.

I was just thinking today....I've lived in Nebraska for 15 years, and Utah for 13.....that is a little crazy....at the rate I'm going I'll pass up my time in Nebraska here soon....kinda sad.

YUMMY Treats!

Many of you know I love watching Studio 5. It's a local show that has little craft, food, fitness segments. And I love getting ideas. Here is my latest thing from the show. A lady from Rhodes frozen bread was on the other day, and showed how to make heart shaped pretzels, and these yummy raspberry cinnamon rolls. I bet you could do this with any frozen rolls, but all you do is follow directions for making the rolls rise, then before you bake them add raspberry pie filling on top (you could probably use other flavors, but they used raspberry because of Valentines day, red). Then follow directions to cook. And add the cream cheese frosting on top.....sooooo yummy!!! Rhodes also has a orange cinnamon roll...that would taste yummy too, but I didn't try it, they only had the regular kind at the store.

Bad Habits...

Charley has been sick the last few days. Yesterday she spent most of the day in our bed watching movies and sleeping. However, that night she didn't want to go back in her room. Since she was sick, we let her sleep on our floor. So we put some blankets on the floor and she slept great! My first mistake was not making my bed this morning....because her little bed was still on our floor this afternoon. She told me she was tired today so I put her in her room, and then went to take out the trash. When I came inside I found her in our room on the floor sleeping. We'll have to break this bad habit soon!

We needed to run to the grocery store today. When we came home, I put Gabby on the floor on her tummy facing me so she could see me while I put the groceries away. She started off in the middle of the blanket, facing the other direction. When I looked over, she was like this. She isn't crawling yet, but she sure is scooting around. I'm not sure if I am ready for this yet.

Couches

Our new couches arrived yesterday! They are so comfy and pretty!

I know I hated on our old couches a lot. I have been wanting to get new couches for forever! But I am very grateful for our old couches. They were free, and they did their job!

Our new couches are a chocolate brown, textured microfiber. They look corduroy, and feel like velvet! The only problem is the throw pillows.....they are HUGE. If you put all the pillows on there is no room to sit! So we probably wont keep all of them on. But I love them.

Thank You Ben for my wonderful Birthday Present!

**If you are wondering what we did with our old couches, we have found them a new home. My brother-in-laws sister just got married, and needed couches, and she was willing to take the love seat and the chair. And we put up the big couch on KSL yesterday and it was gone that night!

Some Very Low Fat/Fat Free Recipes

One of these days I'm gonna make a cook book! Emily asked...so here are two of my favorite easy recipes that I always have ingredients on hand for a quick fat free meal.

Chicken Packs:
Thawed Chicken Breasts
BBQ sauce
Sliced Pineapples
Green Pepper, sliced
Salt/Pepper
Foil

Preheat oven to 350
tear off a foil sheet and place one chicken breast in the foil (flip the edges of foil up to make bowl, salt and pepper to taste. Pour BBQ sauce over chicken and add a slice of pineapple and slice of green pepper.
Close off foil and repeat with as many packs and you need.
Cook for about 20 minutes or until chicken is cooked through

*I like to serve with rice. The only fat in this meal is the chicken!!

Green Enchilada Goodness: by Liz A.
30 oz can Green enchilada sauce
chicken breasts

open your can of green enchilada sauce (the big can, not the little can...I'm not sure of the oz size) and pour in a pot and add uncooked chicken breasts (about 2 chicken breasts). Cook the chicken in the sauce on the stove top on med. heat. When the chicken is cooked through, shred with fork.

* Serve over rice, but it is really good with sour cream and cheese. Ben likes to eat it in a tortilla. If you get fat free sour cream, and depending on how much cheese you put on, the chicken and cheese are the only things with fat.

Those are 2 really simple recipes that I really like. More to come!

Motherhood 101

Most of you know that I hate cooking....or at least I used to. Every time a sign up sheet in church came around, I signed up to bring paper products or dessert (dessert is easy to buy). I can go on forever about food that I have ruined trying to make.....jello, boxed brownies, and I've even burnt toast!

Now, don't laugh...this is probably something everyone does....and it is something we are told over and over in Relief Society to do....but I have realized that if you plan your meals ahead of time, and go to the grocery store for the ingredients, it not only saves you money, but creates less stress. One of the main reasons I hated cooking was trying to figure out what to cook. I would think of something to make, but we wouldn't have all of the ingredients and would have to go to the store. Or, we would have all but one, so I would try and do without....and that never tasted good. I think my mom tried to do that, but it was hard with 8 kids. I remember her getting mad at us because we would make something to eat and she would go to make dinner, and half her ingredients would be gone. But since my kids are little I don't have that problem.

I started this little money saver idea about a year ago, when I was pregnant with Gabby. With both pregnancies, I had a Gaul bladder problem. With Charley I just got frustrated a lot about what I couldn't eat. With Gabby, I was determined to eat as normal as possible. I did a lot of searching online and in books for very low fat/no fat recipes.....and with us heading into the last semester of school and knowing that summer Ben wouldn't be working a lot to study for the bar, we needed to save money. At the time, it was a necessity, but now, I like it.

Every Monday I sit down and look at my cook books and on-lone, pick some recipes out, write down what I need to buy, and head to the grocery store. No more headaches trying to figure out what's for dinner, I know what we are going to have, and I know we have everything to make it.

I'm still not an amazing cook, but I'm not horrible anymore! I have no idea why I didn't do this before! It only takes a little bit of time on Mondays to plan everything out, but its worth it!
